Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What days/times do you offer?
    The Early Childhood program (three year old) classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays (AM) 8:30-10:45 or (PM) 11:30-1:45.
    The Pre-Kindergarten program (four year old) classes are on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (AM) 8:30-11:00 or (PM) 11:45-2:15.
    Our school year runs from September - May. We do not run on semesters. Please consider if you are able to commit to attending for the entire school year. We use a modified Santa Clara Unified School District calendar.
  2. How much is the tuition?
    Registration Fee is $65.00 per student and is non-refundable.
    EC classes are $120.00 per month.
    Pre-K classes are $150.00 per month.
    *Fieldtrip fees are collected as needed.
  3. When do I need to pay the tuition?
    May 2011 tuition is paid with registration.
    April 2011 tuition is due with enrollement forms in May 2010
    September - March tuition is to paid in full on the first of each month.

  4. Opportunities to observe the classes?
    Classroom observations start in January 2010 and will be available through the end of May. Prospective members are encouraged to observe the classrooms (without their children) during school hours by scheduling an appointment with the Membership Chairperson, Maneesha Ranabhor. Please e-mail shoukim@gmail.com to schedule a time. This contact is only for making observation appointments.
  5. Who is the best teacher?
    Observations are encouraged to help you match one of our very qualified teachers to your child's needs.
  6. Are we a part of Laurelwood Elementary School?
    No. Laurelwood Preschool is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian cooperative organization and we are NOT part of the Santa Clara Unified School District, we do however, match our holidays to their calendar.
  7. Will I need to work in my child's class? How often?
    Yes, as a parent co-op you are required to work in your child's class approximately once every two weeks. A three month work schedule is distributed so that parents can plan accordingly. Each family is also required to complete 5 Community Hours (outside of work days) for the preschool. These hours are made by serving on the board, working at our annual garage & bake sales, participating in cleaning days, and serving our preschool community in other ways.
  8. What is the adult/student ratio?
    In EC, one teacher, 15 students, and 3 parents per class.
    In Pre-K, one teacher, 18 students, and three parents per class.
  9. Are snacks provided?
    Parents take turns to provide healthy snacks for the children in the class. A snack schedule is provided at the same time as parent work schedules.
